Learn how to grow Shiitake, Oyster and Nameko using hardwood logs, woodchip, and sawdust.

Edible wood decomposing mushrooms have been cultivated since the Thirteenth Century. The workshop introduces modern techniques which are built upon the ancient traditions.

After an introduction to the techniques that are used in the laboratory to produce mushroom spawn, followed by a talk about how mushrooms and fungi interact within the environment, participants will find out how to use Plug Spawn to grow Shiitake using freshly felled green timber. Cultivation of a variety of Oyster mushrooms using Grain Spawn and soft wood sawdust will be demonstrated, plus making Nameko woodchip beds using Sawdust Spawn.

Everyone will get a chance to make and take home a shiitake mushroom log, plus a Nameko and Oyster mushroom sawdust spawn kit and a resource CD-Rom.
