Nameko Mushroom Plug Spawn

Nameko Mushrooms are extremely popular throughout Asia, where it is called the ‘slime cap mushroom’ – on account of the glutinous membrane which is only present when young. It may sound a little unappetising, but don’t let this put you off; the slime disappears upon cooking leaving a pleasing nutty flavour and crunchy texture that compliments many oriental-style soups and stir-fries.

Unlike most other gourmet mushroom species, Nameko can be grown using softwoods (conifer and fir trees) and also most hardwoods. It has the unusual ability to overcome the anti-fungal resins present in all softwoods.  Nameko likes to fruit from logs which are partially buried horizontally into beds of woodchip or compost, or a mixture of both.
