Reishi is known as the ‘mushroom of immortality’ in the Far East, where it has rapidly become the premier medicinal mushroom and is one of the most scientifically researched mushrooms to date. Reishi mushrooms have been shown to possess potent anti-tumour and anti-bacterial properties through it’s ability to act positively on the human immune system.

Reishi mushrooms are members of the polypore family, and are common throughout the temperate forests and woodlands of the world and it is native to the British Isles and Europe.  Reishi thrives on most hardwoods, and also fruit trees.  It is often referred to as the ‘lacquered conk’ on account of it’s shiny, almost polished appearance.

Produces annually in summer.

Tree Species

All hardwoods are suitable, and also fruit trees. Preferred species: Elm, Oak, Maple, Cherry, Plum.

Timber Selection

Reishi mushrooms can be grown on a variety of timber diameters, including stumps. A popular method developed in the Orient uses short logs 30 to 50 cm in length with a diameter of 10 to 15 cm, that are buried vertically into plant pots or similar well draining containers.  1 metre logs are buried horizontally in the ground and then partially covered, ensuring the top of the log remains visible.

Inoculation Rate: 30 plugs per 50 cm length of timber
Dowel Size: 8 mm x 35 mm
Supplied in a Filter Bag for maximum viability and extended storage
