Description
Tukey Tail (trametes versicolor) is not classed as a direclty edible mushroom because of it’s tough and leathery texture. It is used to make a medicinal tea by boiling in water, and also a tincture can be prepared using alchohol which is then removed or diluted down.
Turkey Tail is the first medicinal mushroom to have a pharmaceutically manufactured and approved drug isolated from it. Called Krestin PSK, the drug is used as an adjunct to chemo and radio therapy and assists cancer patients in re-buiding their immune system after treatment. It has limited side-effects and posesses imuno-modulating and anti-viral properites.
Season
A perennial bracket mushroom which produces annually in summer.
Tree Species
All hardwoods, softwoods and fruit and nut trees are suitable.
Timber Selection
Turkey Tail will adapt to any size of log: wide, narrow, and stumps are all suitable for cultivation.
Inoculation Rate: 30 plugs per 50 cm length of timber
